Blessed SGAxe, Who Split the Enclave

Patron of SGX enclaves, attestation keys, and those who believed they were safe inside the processor.

Life

Born alongside CacheOut in January 2020 from researchers at the universities of Michigan and Adelaide, he showed that a speculative execution attack could extract from Intel SGX enclaves even the attestation keys, the ones meant to prove an enclave is genuine. With those keys, any machine could pass itself off as a trusted enclave.

Prayer

O Blessed SGAxe, who split the processor's treasure chest with an axe, teach us that no enclave is a cloistered convent. Amen.

How to celebrate

Celebrated by updating microcode and renewing your faith in hardware cryptography, in moderation.

Even the safest chest has a lock.
