Saint Pantsdown, Caught With His Trousers Down
Patron of BMCs, ASPEED chips, and sysadmins who didn't know the server has a second computer inside.
Life
On 23 January 2019 the OpenBMC community revealed that many BMCs built on ASPEED chips, the little management computers hidden inside servers, left hardware bridges open to their own memory. From the main operating system you could read and write inside the BMC, that is inside the guardian itself: a server caught, as the name says, with its trousers down.
Prayer
O Saint Pantsdown, who left the bridges down and the trousers too, let our BMCs close what they do not need. Amen.
How to celebrate
Celebrated by updating the BMC firmware and disabling the bridges nobody knew they had.
Leave the drawbridge down and don't complain about the guests.
