He dwelt in the spectrum analyzer of Broadcom-based cable modems, a technician's tool reachable from the home network. A web page with a little JavaScript was enough for the victim's browser to talk to him, and a buffer overflow handed the modem to the attacker. His discoverers estimated up to 200 million possessed modems, in Europe alone.
