"Caerulea Aeterna". An SMBv1 exploit built by an intelligence agency was dumped by the Shadow Brokers on 14 April 2017, a month after the MS17-010 patch. In May WannaCry and in June NotPetya used it to cripple hospitals, ports and multinationals. The year taught that cyber-weapons eventually escape their owners, and that a thirty-year-old protocol should be switched off, not just patched.
