Blessed Link Trap, Who Hid the Secrets in a Link

Patron of AI assistants, prompt injection, and everyone who clicks any link called 'reference'.

Life

On 17 December 2024 Jay Liao of Trend Micro described the Link Trap: hidden instructions in the prompt persuaded an AI to gather confidential data, pack it into a URL and hide it behind an innocent-looking link. The AI answered normally to seem trustworthy, then added the link; if the user clicked, the data left. No special permissions, no connectivity: the final step is taken by the victim.

Prayer

O Blessed Link Trap, who disguises data exfiltration as a harmless reference, let us check where every link leads before we click. Amen.

How to celebrate

Celebrated by inspecting the final prompts and hovering over links before trusting the word 'reference'.

A kind link, your data on a trip.
