Antipope GHOST

Encyclical

"Spiritus Qui Non Terruit". In January 2015 Qualys revealed an overflow in glibc's gethostbyname, and headlines instantly crowned it the next Heartbleed. The bug was real, but it hit already obsolete functions, had been quietly fixed in 2013, and was exploitable in very few real programs, mainly Exim. Qualys did careful work; it was the press echo that inflated the ghost. Lesson: a bug in a ubiquitous library is not automatically a ubiquitous bug.
