"Truncus Loquax". On 9 December 2021 a ${jndi:...} string typed in a Minecraft chat revealed that Log4j, buried in thousands of Java products, executed what it was only meant to record. The hard part was not fixing the library but finding it, and sysadmins spent Christmas hunting JARs. From that year on, the SBOM, the software bill of materials, stopped being paperwork.
