The Demon Zeus, Father of a Lineage of Trojans
Legend
Identified in 2007, Zeus was a banking-trojan kit that stole credentials by grabbing forms and injecting fake fields into bank pages, sold to countless crews. It drained the accounts of many small businesses in 2009-2010, until Operation Trident Breach led to the arrest of money-mule networks in the US, the UK and Ukraine. In 2011 its source code leaked; its lineage includes GameOver Zeus, Citadel and Zeus Panda.
Exorcism
Cast it out by confirming banking operations on a separate channel, so that a forged page is not enough. Keep browsers and the operating system patched, block known command domains and watch for web injects.
