The Demon AcidRain, the Rain That Killed the Modems

On 24 February 2022 it struck Viasat's KA-SAT satellite network, wiping the memory of tens of thousands of modems across Europe and leaving them unusable. Among the side effects, remote monitoring of thousands of German wind turbines went down. SentinelOne identified it as a wiper for MIPS routers and modems, and Viasat called the finding consistent with the attack.

Cast it out by protecting the central device-management systems updates come from. Also have a plan to replace or reflash field devices quickly.

The Scourge of the Satellite Modems

A wiper for MIPS-based modems and routers used on 24 February 2022 against Viasat's KA-SAT network, bricking tens of thousands of satellite modems across Europe. The outage also cut remote monitoring of thousands of German wind turbines. The EU, US and UK attributed the attack to Russia.
